In the interview, Tim Shriver explains why Special Olympics are more than just sport and what role Switzerland plays in this context.

In an interview with the Luzerner Zeitung, Tim Shriver, Chairman of Special Olympics, speaks about inclusion and the role of Switzerland. The focus is on the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2029, which will be held in Switzerland and are intended to be far more than just a sporting event. They aim to trigger a sustainable development towards greater inclusion.

However, this development does not begin in 2029. With the upcoming Special Olympics National Summer Games Zug 2026, the vision is already becoming tangible. Zug2026 is meant to demonstrate what inclusion looks like in everyday life and how people can grow together.

Shriver emphasises that people with cognitive disabilities, in particular, show how respectful coexistence can work. This is exactly the mindset that the upcoming events aim to strengthen and carry forward.
